The EAHM 2026 brings together leading specialists in anterior hip from around the world. The names listed here are confirmed. Any additional members will be listed as confirmed as we move towards the meeting.  

Professor Richard Field, UK

Professor Field is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the management of hip-related problems. He is the UK’s most experienced surgeon in anterior (DAA) hip replacement. He is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at St George’s University of London. His NHS clinical practice is undertaken solely at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), where he was the Director of Research from 2004-2021. Professor Field completed his medical training at the Westminster Hospital in 1980. After being awarded a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1988, he completed his specialist training in Orthopaedics in London, Cambridge and Melbourne. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Helier Hospital, Surrey in 1994 and moved to SWLEOC in 2004. Professor Field has served as a board member of the British Hip Society (BHS) and as a board member and President of the International Society for Hip Preservation Surgery (ISHA). He is currently serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Hip Preservation Surgery (JHPS) and as the HCA chair for National Joint Registry (NJR) surgeon audit. 

Dr Frédéric Laude, France

Dr Laude is a surgeon specializing in Orthopedics. He only treat surgical problems related to the hip joint. He manages both the hip pain of young patients due to hip impingement or periacetabular osteotomy of the pelvis for instability, but also of course the installation of minimally invasive anterior hip prostheses of which I was one. pioneers more than 25 years ago.

Dr Kirstoff Corten, Belgium

Prof. dr. Kristoff Corten is a prominent orthopaedic surgeon specialized in hip surgery and renowned innovator in DAA THA surgical technique at Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg (Belgium).

He was trained in the Catholic University of Leuven, the University of Western Ontario (Canada), the Mayo Clinic Minnesota (US) and the Schulthess Clinic Zurich (Switzerland).

Prof.Dr.med Michael Leunig, Switzerland

​Dr. Michael Leunig is an international expert in hip surgery.  He is a professor and head of hip surgery at the Schulthess Klinik, Swiss Olympic Medical Center in Zurich, Switzerland.  His work, as a leader of the group of hip surgeons in Switzerland who have revolutionized hip surgery, led to development of the knowledge base and the modern techniques for hip disorders that have become the foundation of the field.  For these reasons, the top hip surgeons of the world travel to learn from him, and he has been invited to the most prestigious international meetings to present his work.  His accolades include the publication of numerous textbooks and book chapters, publication of over 100 scientific papers, and hundreds of lectures.  Patients travel from across Europe and beyond to receive his care, and he routinely treats elite athletes from sports​.

Mr Jonathan Hutt, UK

Mr Hutt is a leading consultant orthopaedic and specialist hip surgeon based in London with over 20 years’ experience. He consults privately at The Princess Grace Hospital, treating both adult and young patients with hip problems.


In the UK, Mr Hutt is one of only a few surgeons to have specialised in all aspects of hip surgery, including advanced joint preservation techniques such as minimally invasive periacetabular osteotomy for hip dysplasia, hip arthroscopy for femoro-acetabular impingement, and hip reconstruction. When joint preservation is not an option, Mr Hutt has extensive experience in hip replacement using both the direct anterior and the posterior approach. He also offers revision hip replacement procedures. Mr Hutt originally qualified from the University of Oxford in 2000 and Imperial College London in 2003. He completed his orthopaedic training on the prestigious South West Thames deanery before going on to accomplish double fellowship training: in arthroplasty, joint preservation and lower limb reconstruction at Université de Montréal in Canada, and in young adult hip surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. As a prominent figure in his specialty, Mr Hutt was awarded with the distinguished Rothman-Ranawat travelling fellowship by the American Hip Society in 2022.

Dr Joseph Moskal, USA

 

Joseph Moskal, M.D. is Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Senior Vice President at Carilion Clinic. He has received several awards, including membership to Alpha Omega Alpha, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Award of Excellence for Best Scientific Exhibit, the University of Virginia Resident Teaching Award, the Virginia Orthopaedic Society Lifetime Achievement Award and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Achievement Award. Dr. Moskal is past chair of the AAOS Exhibits Committee, the past chair of the Education Committee for AAHKS and past president of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society.

Dr. Moskal has over 140 publications in peer reviewed journals, over 50 published abstracts, 15 book chapters, and has authored 50 scientific exhibits national and international meetings. In addition, he is the senior editor for the second edition of the textbook The Direct Anterior Approach to Hip Reconstruction. His current focus of research is on hip and knee replacements including the evaluation of new technology.

Dr Andrew Wickline, USA

 

He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in total hip replacement and total knee replacement. With over 17 years in practice, he has extensive experience in computer navigation and robotic surgery, muscle-sparing techniques like anterior hip replacement, and tourniquet-free knee replacement. 

He has also developed a new, innovative recovery technique for total knee replacement called the “Therapy-Free Total Knee Replacement.” This Therapy-Free protocol decreases pain, saves money, and accelerates recovery, allowing patients to recovery in the comfort of their own homes. This robust program of preoperative patient education and optimization has led to a 2X lower complication rate than the top 200 orthopedic hospitals in the nation. He currently teaches anterior hip replacement and outpatient joint replacement techniques to surgeons in the USA and India. He also spend time educating surgeons and patients about his Therapy-Free, narcotic-free joint replacement method.

Mr Mark Higgins, UK

 

He has been a consultant hip and knee surgeon for 5 years and specialises in primary hip and knee replacements, complex hip surgery including custom prosthesis for developmental hip disease and deformity, and revision hip surgery covering all complications that can arise from hip replacements. He does his NHS practice in a tertiary referral centre for complex hip referrals and accept referrals from across the region as part of the established revision group for the east midlands.

 

He specialises in hip arthroplasty including anterior minimally invasive surgery (AMIS) total hip replacement, bikini approach total hip replacement, ceramic on ceramic hip resurfacing, metal on metal hip resurfacing and revision total hip replacement. He also specialises in total knee replacement and am trained in the use of the VELYS robot assisted total knee replacement technique. He provides early management of the degenerate knee with injections, including HA injections such as durolane, and knee arthroscopy for meniscal tears and degenerate disease.

He is a high volume hip and knee surgeon, performing >400 primary hips and knees a year alongside more than 50 hip revisions a year across his NHS and independent practice. He provides day case hip and knee replacements with more than 80% of his patients spending less than 24 hours in hospital.

He is the only surgeon offering anterior minimally invasive (AMIS) bikini approach hip replacement surgery in the region, which enables hip replacement to be carried out through a minimal incision, without cutting any muscles, leading to faster early recovery, less pain, less bleeding and less risk of dislocation. 

Dr Joseph Schwab, USA/SWI

 

Joseph M. Schwab, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic hip surgeon. He is internationally known as an expert in Anterior Approach Hip Replacement. He has been listed among "The Best Doctors in America" for his clinical expertise. 

 

He holds an undergraduate baccalaureate degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University, and has completed numerous leadership and training programs including the AOA USC APEX Leadership Certificate Program, the Medical College of Wisconsin Leadership Academy, and the Clinical Research Scholars Program from the Clinical & Translational Science Institute of Southeastern Wisconsin.

 

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (USA), Dr. Schwab has been located in Switzerland  since 2022, working as Director of Research Services and Senior Physician and Researcher in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the University of Fribourg (UniFR) and Cantonal Hospital of Fribourg (HFR).

Dr Karuppiah Mahalingam, IRL

 

Orthopaedic specialist at Mater Private Cork, Mr Karuppiah Mahalingam, started his medical studies in Madras University in South India. He trained in General Surgery and Orthopaedics in Ireland, working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Cork University for more than ten years before moving to a private practice. Dr Jochen Hofstaetter, AUT

He is an orthopaedic surgeon with a passion for complex hip and knee surgery. Moreover, he has a profound interest in clinical and basic research, PJI, AI, MSK-healthcare. He did his clinical training at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria under Prof. Rainer Kotz and Prof Windhager followed by a fellowhip on adult reconstruction at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia with Prof. Donald Howie. Currently he works at the Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising, Austria, which is a large orthopaedic tertiary center.

 

Over 11.000 orthopaedic surgeries are performed per year at his institute and they do around 3000 joint replacements with a focus on revision surgeries. He did a research fellowship with Prof. Melvin Glimcher at the Children’s Hospital Boston /Harvard Medical School and was closely affiliated with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Osteology in Vienna with Prof. Klaus Klaushofer and Prof. Paul Roschger. Currently he is the head of the Michael Ogon Laboratory for Orthopaedic Research at our institute. His research is on various aspects of hip and knee surgery, Artificial Intelligence, PJI and Bone Biology. 

Dr Filippo Randelli, ITL

Filippo Randelli is a contract Professor practicing and teaching hip surgery at the Hip Department in Gaetano Pini Orthopaedic Institute, University of Milan. Previously he was chief of Orthopaedics and Trauma at San Donato University Hospital and has chaired the ESSKA Hip Arthroscopy Committee and the AO Trauma Italy.

 

He is the Hip Associate Editor for the Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and has organized more than 30 meetings, moderated more than 90 sessions and presented over 600 papers in national and international meetings. He published mainly on hip and trauma surgery (H-index 15).

Prof Justin Cobb, UK

Professor Cobb was an open scholar at Magdalen College Oxford, graduating in medicine in 1982. He trained in Oxford, London and Brighton. He completed his master’s thesis in 1991 and was then appointed consultant orthopaedic surgeon at The Middlesex Hospital. He was awarded a Hunterian Professorship in 1992. After 15 years as a consultant at UCLH and Hon Sen Lect at UCL, he joined Imperial as chair of orthopaedics in 2005. His clinical work is divided between Charing Cross Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic.

In 1992 the special trustees of The Middlesex, awarded his first grant, which led to the development, with Brian Davies, of Acrobot, the worlds first haptic based robotic assistant. This was bought by Stanmore Implants, who then sold it to Mako Surgical. The Mako robot is now sold by Stryker around the world.

He runs the MSk Lab in the Sir Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering (BME) Hub on the White City Campus, an entire building devoted to biomedical engineering, housing engineers, scientists and clinicians working on many aspects, from regenerative medicine to neurotechnology and dementia research.

Dr JN Chuck Cakic, CR/SA

Dr Josip Nenad Cakic, known as Chuck, born in Zagreb, Croatia 1st of March 1965. Medical qualification, MD, achieved in the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, Croatia, 1989. Immigrated to South Africa in 1991, where started as an Intern in JG Strydom, WITS University Hospital. FCS(SA)Orth graduated at WITS University, November 1998. Immediately after graduation, Chuck joined the Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Fellowship with Prof. Dr F.A. Weber, finding specific interest in the hip. Very close working relationship with Prof Weber continued for many years, and resulted with Philosophy Doctor Degree (PhD) in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2009. At the same time, Dr Cakic was working on establishing his Private Practice. Coming in contact with younger, sport oriented patients and having a special interest in hip joint, since beginning of 2000, he started with developing of Hip Arthroscopy in South Africa.

Dr George Grammatopoulos, CAN

Dr. George Grammatopoulos is an internationally recognised hip and knee specialist at The Ottawa Hospital, where he serves as Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon, Fellowship Director for Arthroplasty, and Director of Research and Innovation for Orthopaedics. He completed his surgical training and DPhil at the University of Oxford, bringing a uniquely global perspective to every patient's care.

Prof John O'Donnell, AUS

Prof. John O’Donnell has been performing hip arthroscopy since 1990 and was one of the earliest developers of arthroscopic FAI surgery in 2002. He is one of the early pioneers in the field and is one of the most experienced hip arthroscopists in the world, having performed over 10,000 hip arthroscopies.

Assoc Prof. O’Donnell graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1977 and completed his Orthopaedic training in Melbourne. After traveling overseas working in The UK, France and Austria, he returned to Melbourne to take appointments at the Royal Childrens Hospital and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He developed an interest in shoulder surgery and gained experience and skill with arthroscopic techniques and equipment in this area. He utilized these attributes to successfully develop hip arthroscopy techniques and instruments.

Widely respected, he has presented nationally and internationally on the subjects of hip arthroscopy and hip replacement surgery, as well as publishing more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals, and book chapters.

Dr Cesare Faldini, ITL

Cesare Faldini, born on the 10th of July in Florence, is Full Professor of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery in University of Bologna and Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, University of Bologna Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli.

Graduated at Pisa University, since 1996 he was assistant of Professor Sandro Giannini, at Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, Bologna. Assistant Professor in 2001, Associate Professor in 2006, Chairmen of Department Rizzoli Sicilia from 2011 to 2016. He has more than 6000 operations as the first surgeon in the field of joint replacements, spine, foot and ankle, pediatrics, upper limb and trauma surgery. He has more than 2000 Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty and Prosthesis Revision Operations as first surgeon.  He is recognized instructor for total hip arthroplasty in complex hip deformities such as trauma sequaele, dysplastic hip, slipped capital disease, femoral head necrosis, severe limb shortening, etc. He is an instructor for minimally invasive Total Hip Arthroplasty, tissue sparing, blood sparing, fast track recovery.

Dr Hannes Ruediger, SWI

Hannes A Rüdiger is professor at the University of Zurich and deputy head of the hip division at Schulthess Clinic in Zurich. While his clinical practice covers the entire spectrum of hip surgery his main focus is in primary and complex revision arthroplasty. Prior to his appointment at the Schulthess Clinic he was head of the hip and tumor serviced at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. He is internationally trained in Switzerland, the US, Italy and Australia, and has completed fellowships in orthopaedic tumor surgery and joint arthroplasty. His research is focused on various aspects of hip arthroplasty. 

Dr Marc Jayankura, SWI

Dr Jayankura is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip surgery—which accounts for nearly 90% of his practice—and pelvic surgery, he also treats bone and soft tissue tumors, including those affecting muscles and other tissues.

He completed his training at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris before returning to Erasme Hospital and the CHIREC (Edith Cavell) hospital, where he currently practices.

Ms Irrum Afzal , UK

MICR, MRQA and MPH qualified, Imperial College London graduate, with over five years orthopaedic, clinical research experience and management experience. Irrum also holds a Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Sustainability Studies and has completed both the PRINCE2 Practitioner and Foundation exams. Irrum played a leading role in the development of the GIRFT and SWLEOC Elective Hub Toolkit. The purpose of this toolkit is to show aspiring surgical hubs a detailed study of processes, job roles and patient pathways within a well-established elective orthopaedic hub (https://girft-hubtoolkit.org.uk/). Irrum has comprehensive knowledge of quantitative, qualitative, mixed method research and statistics in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Institute of Clinical Research and Research Quality Association guidelines. Irrum has extensive knowledge of clinical outcomes and patient reported outcome measures with a particular interest in orthopaedics. Irrum has published in various peer-reviewed journals and often presents at national and international meetings. Irrum is co-director of the London Research course. Irrum is also a professional member of the Health Research Authority Research Ethics Committee attending regular meetings actively giving her opinion and guidance on research ethics. She is an active member of the British Orthopaedic Association, National Orthopaedic Alliance, British Hip Society and the British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association. Outside of clinical research, Irrum plays an active role in the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation and the Imperial College London Alumni Service.
